I thought I’d share with you guys a couple of pictures of the kids having fun in the snow today. It’s definitely a rare treat for those of us in Dallas and the kids have had a blast outside playing!! (BTW, WHAT is with 3 year olds and not wanting to wear hats?!?!)
After two years of snow here in Dallas I guess we should prepare a little more for next year. We only had rainboots for the kids and while they kept their feet DRY, they didn’t keep them WARM so we had to come inside a little earlier than they would’ve liked.
The highlight of their day today was that they got to make SNOW ICE CREAM this afternoon!!
Just in case you are looking for a recipe, here are a few from readers on the Surviving The Stores Facebook page:
Recipe #1 from Rebecca and Melissa:
8 cups of snow
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
Vanilla
Mix well and serve!
Recipe #2 from Linda and myself: 🙂
Lots and lots of snow
1 1/2 cup regular milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Sugar (I used 1 cup and it was WAY too much for 8 cups of snow, so I would experiment to see what you like best)
Mix everything together!
Recipe #3 from Donna:
2 Gallons of snow
1 small box of instant pudding (any flavor)
1 cup sugar
Mix with an electric mixer and the left-overs can be frozen!
Please feel free to share any other snow ice cream ideas in the comments below and/or your experience with the above recipes!
my great fear is eating snow- too many issues with the environment for me (i know, i know- it takes all the fun out of being a kid)
Its prob cleaner than anything you get if you eat out, snow ice cream is one of the fav memories of my childhood 🙂 And we lived north with LOTS of snow!
Glad to see you made it out into the cold and snow to enjoy it and not hide inside from it down in Dallas
I don’t buy special boots or anything for the snow… I am from up north and since we don’t get this weather that often it would be a waste to buy it. I simply just have the kiddos wear socks then add a large ziplock baggy around there feet then add another pair of socks. Keeps the toes warm and dry! You can do the same for hands if you don’t have the proper gloves.
Oh that’s a great idea! I just saw a picture on Facebook of a friend’s kids who were wearing Walmart plastic bags over their shoes taped to their pants! LOL! I guess whatever works!! 🙂
Oops… I’m from up North but now live way South! 🙂
LOL, Heidi! Yeah, it’s a little scary for those of who grew up down here. I didn’t actually SEE snow (other than on TV) until I was 20. 🙂
