While I am completely in love with my Zoku popsicle maker that my mom gave me a couple of years ago for Christmas, you don’t need a Zoku to make awesome frozen treats during the hot summer months! (there is also a great price right now these BPA Free Popsicle Maker Ice Molds if you would like something to inexpensively make popsicles in)
This simple recipe will help you create plenty of frozen treats using all of your favorite fruits. Get as creative as you wish by mixing up different fruits, berries, and juices.
Base Recipe for Frozen Treats
- 8 ounces of berries or 3 whole fruit either mixed or the same depending on your taste
- 1 Cup fruit juice
- Consider adding in 4 ounces of shredded coconut, a dash of flax, a little protein powder, or 4 ounces of yogurt.
- 10 popsicle sticks
- 10 3 ounce paper or plastic cups
Place your ingredients in a blender and mix thoroughly. If you wish, you may add in whole blueberries or sliced strawberries to add and extra element of fun. You can also add in some yogurt to make it a creamy popsicle.
Pour mixture in cups and place in a freezer until the top has hardened a *little*.
Add in the popsicle stick and continue to freeze until completely frozen.
You can use this basic recipe to create all kinds of fun popsicles! You can use pears and cinnamon, or strawberries and banana. What about watermelon (frozen watermelon is perfect for popsicles!) and cucumber with maybe a bit of basil? Think about adding in iced tea with lemon juice or black ice tea with a few drops of lavender essential oil for an Earl Grey feel. The options really are limitless!
Since you are blending up your mixture you have the ability to add veggies, flax, chia seeds or other healthy ingredients without worrying about it being overpowering or the texture being displeasing. Get the kids involved and make some delicious and healthy treats so you can shoo the ice cream truck away! 🙂
Happy Summer!
