Our local cake shop lets you rent the cake molds of all different characters for $1. I've done the dress cake for barbie and Thomas. You can't beat that!

With 4 girls, I had to start making my own cakes.
I started a blog of photos and simple directions to make the cakes. Some of my friends also sent in pics of theirs. So, this blog is of cakes made by moms… not pros. Here's the link if anyone is interested to see what ordinary moms can do to make cute cakes.

We had my son's birthday party 2 years in a row at the local university airport. We were able to reserve a room for $20 and the boys LOVED watching all the planes take off and land. Lots of airports let you do this!
