Now that the gifts are bought WITHOUT going into debt and WHILE staying on budget, here are a few ideas...
We buy for every adult on my husbands side. There is a limit of $10 per person though. We shop all year long for gifts and then it doen’t feel like a burden at the end of the year.
I have a deal with my favorite cousin…we are only allowed to buy for each other from a yard sale! We spend all summer trying to outdo each other with the perfect gift! This year, since I have been very busy couponing, I am making gift baskets for the adults and teenagers with all the freebies and samples I scored!

I shop all year for deals and find many thru you 🙂 On our sides of family kids get presents but the adults do an annual tournament game. Each “contestant” buys a $20 unisex gift. We put them in a pile. As you get bumped out of the game you choose from the pile. THen the next bumped out can steal your gift or choose from pile…and so on with the next bumps. Then, the WINNER of the tournament can pick the last gift OR steal ANY that have been opened! It’s a fun tradition we always look forward to!

We draw names. My immediate family is 6 people. All of the other families are 1-2 people. All total, the extended family is 16. No way am I buying for all of them. We limit the gifts to $20 so it doesn’t kill us to buy for them, if we have to wait until later in the year.

We have agreed on a $30 limit in years past…which makes for more creativity. This time we’ve agreed to buy only for the little ones, since it turns into a gift card exchange anyway.

we don’t do gifts for extended family! We just get together and celebrate. We did go to a waterpark hotel last year to party…. The kids loved it and so did we! Spending time is the important thing
We draw names for the kids. Then we do “Dirty santa” for the adults name funny but it is always fun stealing from each other gifts. You can Google it and it will give you directions on how it is played.
We try to do something different each year. I have made donations to World Vision. You can donate like goats or chickens to families in different countries. One year, we gave gifts that were only seen on TV. I try to come up with different ideas that will be fun and not overly expensive.
Only the kids exchange. Each kid buys for the next youngest kid and the youngest buys for the oldest. They only get one gift and as they are getting older, they get to enjoy going and buying something for their cousin.
