Check out localharvest.org. I found an Organic CSA local to me and it cost $475 for 20 weeks. We get HEAPS of veg each week. We juice everyday and I make my own organic babyfood so go through the full share. Half shares were about $275 I think. I still have to buy a few things each week that we don’t get from the CSA but my spending on veg each week is about $15 compared to about $50-$60 before the CSA.
@Dee, NICE!! I signed up for the waiting list for our local organic CSA when we moved here three years ago and I still haven’t been able to become a member. 🙁 I need to start shopping around for some other CSA options in the area… even if I have to drive a little bit to get it.

I found if I buy less veggies and shop more often I have no waste. I love to stock up but I find if I just buy one or two pieces of fruit and a few veggies I save money and waste nothing. I buy enough apples and pears which last longer for lunches. And big box stores do not always save money since the produce is often older and spoils before it is cooked. My local produce guy looked at me like I was crazy till he figured out I was stopping by more often.

Thanks for the advice! Usually when I try to grow a garden, bugs eat away all of the sprouts. This year, I think I’ll get pest control, and see if I can finally get my own garden growing! Hopefully, the control service won’t be too expensive.
