Worth-It Wednesday: Food Dehydrator

food dehydratorI am starting a new weekly post titled “Worth-It Wednesday.”  Each Wednesday I will highlight something that I think is worth it.  It could be something that I think is worth it to buy, or articles/posts/books that I think are worth it to read.  Each week will be a surprise! 🙂

I have wanted a food dehydrator for YEARS now.  It’s been a purchase I’ve had trouble justifying in my mind, so I’ve been putting it off.   I had thought about asking for one for Christmas in previous years, but it always seemed there were other things that were more important.

I have been saving up Amazon Gift Cards with Swagbucks for Christmas shopping this year, but since I already have the kid’s Christmas shopping finished, I decided to buy something for myself.  Yes, I FINALLY have a 9-tray Excaliber Food Dehydrator!

And oh my word, I LOVE IT!  I can dry fruit, veggies, herbs, make beef/turkey/chicken jerky, put my bread in it to rise, make fruit rollups… really the list is seemingly endless!  I’m kicking myself  for not getting one sooner.  Now when I find good deals on fresh fruits and veggies I can dehydrate them to use year-round!

A food dehydrator is definitely something that I believe is WORTH IT!

Do you have a food dehydrator?  Is it something you love?  What are your favorite recipes?  I’d love to hear!!

  1. Oh I’ve been lusting after one of those for years! I grew up with a great dehydrator, homemade prunes were always my favorite. And Excaliber is the way to go, definitely. So happy for you!

  2. i have owned a couple of dehydrators but I’ve found that my oven works just as well and I can dry so much more in the space. I’m sure you are getting much better electrical value out of your machine… but have you ever tried using the oven? your dehydrator is a beauty! thanks for sharing!!

  3. I have always wanted to try the Alton Brown method, using a box fan and AC filters. Looks like it might work and be cheapo!!

  4. I’ve been wanting one, but can’t let go of the money. My favorite restaurant makes dehydrated green beans that yummy. Let us know how it works for you.
