Have you joined the Twitter craze yet? I remember the first time someone explained Twitter to me. They said, “It’s like the Facebook status update for a bunch of random people to read.”
While, yes, you can use Twitter as just a status update, it really is SO MUCH MORE!
Here are just a few of the things that I love about Twitter:
- You can follow all of your favorite deal/coupon bloggers to get up-to-the-minute updates when they post a new deal or coupon!
- If you own a business, it is a GREAT (dare I say, one of the best) ways to network with others in your industry or those who might be interested in your products/services.
- You can follow just about anyone that you want to! You typically don’t have to ask them first. So if you want to follow your favorite band, favorite companies, or a pastor you enjoy listening to… just follow them!
- It is a great way to get quick customer service. Do you have an issue with your latest device or gadget? Tweet the company and many times you will get a faster response than going through their contact form.
Are you convinced yet? If so, I am going to tell you about a program that will make your Twitter experience so much better! It’s a program called Tweetdeck.
Tweetdeck allows you to sort your contacts by categories and see the categories all at the same time! You can also see all of your replies on the same screen, along with Direct Messages and any searches that you want to have up!
For example, here’s what my Tweetdeck looks like right now:

You can set yours up however you want to, but here’s how I have mine:
Left column (column 1): Mentions. This is for anyone who replies to something that I have said or says anything about me. Anything that has “@survivingstores” in it will show up in that column.
Column 2: Frugal Bloggers. Since I am following well over 2,000 people on Twitter, I have a column set up specifically to follow other Frugal Bloggers. Whenever one of these bloggers posts something on Twitter it shows up in that column!
Columns 3 & 4: Searches that I am following. If anyone uses the hashtags #blissdom (a conference that I’m going to in a couple of week that I can’t wait to tell you guys about!!) or #dealpro when they are tweeting, then it will show up in those columns. You can make a search column for whatever you want. When the TV show LOST is on I typically have a search column up for the #lost hashtag.
I know it sounds complicated, but you will get the hang of it very quickly. Tweetdeck is a program that I definitely believe is worth having! There are all kinds of other features on Tweetdeck, from syncing it with your Facebook account, to being able to easily follow/unfollow/reply/retweet others, to auto-shortening any links that you post (since you can only type 140 characters at a time).
You can download the Tweetdeck program and find more information on the Tweetdeck website.
And make sure to follow me on Twitter too!
Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section below!
Disclosure: I am posting about Tweetdeck because it is a program that I really like. I was not asked by Tweetdeck to write a review, nor am I being compensated in any way for this post.
