Target: Leapfrog Alphabet Pal only 49¢ Fri & Sat!

Oh my goodness! I have GOT to get better so that I can head to Target tomorrow and grab a couple of these for Christmas/birthday presents!

Toys R’ Us is putting out a special 2-day sale ad for Friday and Saturday that will be valid from Friday at 3 PM – Saturday at 1 PM. These ads should be at the front of the stores starting tomorrow. One of the special doorbuster prices on the front page is the Leapfrog Alphabet pal for only $10.49.

Target has a $10 off printable coupon HERE for the Leapfrog Alphabet Pal, so you could do the following deal to get it for only 49¢! WOW!

Leapfrog Alphabet Pal – $10.49 (priced-matched to the Toys R’ Us 2 day ad – make sure you bring in the ENTIRE sales ad for them to price match it)
Use $10/1 Target printable coupon
49¢ each after price matching & printable coupon

Also, I have been seeing reports (on HCW and elsewhere) that people are emailing Target and asking them about using a coupon on an item that has been price matched. The response that Target is sending back is that you CAN use a coupon even when you price match an item. I would highly recommend emailing Target to get this email for yourself, that way you can take it with you when you head to the store!

UPDATE: You can click HERE to view a google doc of the email that Target corporate is sending out.

Do you think it would work if I printed out the ToysRUs ad or do I need to have an original? We don’t have one very near here and we don’t get the paper.

Rachel @ Surviving The Stores Reply:

@EricaW, According to Target corporate, you have to have the one of the original ads. That would be awesome though if they would honor the ones online! My Walmart is like that too — I have to bring in the original competitor’s ad. :(

@EricaW,

A printed copy from the web worked for me, but I explained to the clerk we live in a small town and don’t get the toys r us ad in the paper. I got 3 of these for presents

I just got an e-mail from customer service and they will take coupons after a price match to further discount the price. But you must have the full store ad!

I have actually used a coupon on a price-matched item, and had no problems with it :) {price-matched the Toy’s R Us price on the Tinkerbell DVD, and used the $10/1 coupon… the cashier didn’t even flinch}.

Is this Leapfrog Alphabet Pal the same thing as the TAG reading system that is stated on the coupon?

[Reply]

Rachel @ Surviving The Stores Reply:

@Janet, No, they are different. I had to scroll to the second page of the coupons to find the $10 off one that was for the Alphabet Pal (it has a picture of the caterpillar on the coupon). The one for the TAG reading system is a different coupon.

I just tried this. Slow, but okay, and they only let me use 3 coupons for 4 toys. Still a great deal and I’ll give one and donate 3 to the baby baskets we do each year. $12 for 4 toys — can’t complain!

PS: I probably could have pushed on the coupons, but I had another $30 worth of coupons, and it wasn’t worth the argument. I still needed them to accept the wipes coupons (they took 7 for 8 wipes — again, a puzzle!) and a bunch of games.

I’m assuming we won’t be able to price match until 3 p.m. since that’s the time listed in the TRU ad. Is that correct?

Lauren, I did it in the am, making the case that it would be nuts there later in the day or tomorrow. They agreed, since they wanted the cashiers to practice price matching — so worth a try

I hope that helps! I’ll also add the link to the post above.

I just got back from target with two of the toys for $1.16! Awesome! Thanks so much for posting this. I’m so glad I printed out the email from corporate because I think that was the only reason they would do the deal for me. They also did require the full Toys R Us ad.

I just got back from Target and they only had 1 Alphabet Pal. I snatched it and I had no problems whatsoever. Yeah!

I just got back from Target and they would not honor the Toys R Us ad. They said it had to be full weeklong ad and just not a 2 day special ad.

I went during lunch today, I got my hands on 4! BUT…..

They wouldn’t allow me to use the Target Q’s because they had “WEB” on them. I was told that the Target Web Coupons were only for web purchases. I tried to explain, but alas, it was a no go.

I did call Customer Relations when I got back to the office and I was told that the problem was not with the coupon, it is with the Toys R Us ad. Target apparently does not price match “Doorbusters” and “%” offs.

Oh well, better luck next time, right?

I just stopped by target on my way home from work and the store I stopped at would not honor the toys r us price because it is a doorbuster price and they do not price match doorbusters. :(

The Fenton, Michigan Target will not honor Toys R Us doorbuster adds.
Their shelf was also empty of the Alphabet Pal even tho they had a $10
coupon. So great for those of you that scored on the good deals!

I have a feeling they pulled them from the shelves. I went to two different targets and they were completely out of all of them.

I was also denied the price match. I understand not honoring Door Busters, but they should disclose that information on their website. I called Corporate. I doubt anything will be done. Oh well.

At target today.. I had to complain to first the manager on duty.. THEN the general manager. First I was told, they will not price match with a 2-day ad.. it has to be a weekly ad. They said there are on-going board meetings with Target corporate with this topic regarding if they will honor 2-day ad/doorbuster price matching. They would do it for me just this once since they are still not decided upon it yet.

Then when they saw I also had a target coupon they said they cannot price match AND use a target coupon because that would be using more than one promotional code per item which is against the rules as stated on the back of the target coupons. This was when I asked to speak to the general manager.. and I think they just wanted to get rid of me so they ok’ed that transaction after I continued to argue. But.. I got out of there paying .53 total for the toy. WHAT A HASSLE!!!

Yep, I had the same problem. They wouldn’t honor the sales add from Toys ‘R Us because it was a “weekend doorbuster” sale. They said it had to be a regular sale; they were not allowed to price match anything other than the general sale prices.

I was really frustrated; especially considering so many didn’t have any problem getting the item at the $.49 price! I’m bummed…..
