My blogger friend Heather over at NWA Deals wrote a great post this morning on the Target coupon policy! You can read the full post HERE.
She called Target Customer Relations and hashed out exactly what coupons could be used and when. Here are some of the highlights of what she found out:
1) If there are no restrictions on a coupon (like the Hershey’s Bliss bars) you CAN use it on an item that is less than the coupon and the cashier is supposed to adjust it down! This means, according to Target Corporate, that you CAN buy the the Hershey’s Bliss bars by the registers at 99¢, use the $1/1 Target coupon and get them for FREE! So, how many of you guys are going to run out and buy them NOW??
They really are the most amazing candy bars I’ve ever had!
2) You CAN use coupons on trial/travel size item if the coupon does not exclude it! If the coupon is more than the item the cashier, again, should adjust it down.
3) Customer Relations WANTS you to call them while you are in the store and report any problems so they can speak to the manager on duty RIGHT THEN! Program the following number into your phone and don’t hesitate to call it if you run into any coupon issues: 1-800-440-0680
Maybe if enough of us call they will start training their employees better in their coupon policies!
Thanks a bunch Heather for clearing up these issues for us!

Thanks for helping me get the word out! I am hoping if we all work together we can help educate our stores!
And thanks for the link too

Thanks for the info. I love the idea of calling them while you’re still in the store.

I programmed the number into my phone just in case, but I just got back and it went AWESOME!
Rang up $50.08 before coupons and after it rang up to $15.17!!! The girl behind me was as excited as I was! She followed me out to the car and everything talking about couponing, and I said welcome to the world of couponing!!!

I went to a Target in Columbus, IN and I had the worst time ever. I told them they could and the woman just got mouthy with me. The manager was no help either. I tried getting the Bliss Bars and got nothing but mouth. I didn't have the corporate number with me but called the morning manager this morning. He said he would look into it, I have a feeling he wont' since he didn't take my name or phone number.
She even threw coupons back at me when the register took them and then took them off and then threw them back at me. I hope something happens because seriously, I won't be come back to them and I LOVE Target. I would be find going back to the smaller chains.

Anonymous,
I would definitely recommend calling corporate on that one. How they treated you is awful and I'm sure corporate would love to know about it!

I also had trouble with Target, twice in four weeks. They would not let me use a 3.00 off Venus razors, and the free Satincare shave gel you get if you purchase the razors. These were P&G coupons, clipped! I couldn't believe how they treated me. Up front manager said I was using 2 Q's for one product. No I was not. I called "Guest Relations", the woman told me the manager was correct, I cannot use the coupons at Target. I called again, got a different woman, she appologized, said I should have been able to use those coupons. She was going to "look into it".. so.. I don't know why I have problems with Target.

My problem was also at the Columbus Indiana Target. I just read the post above mine.
BTW, I went to Wal-Mart with my Venus and Satincare gel coupon, I had no problems at all. I don't have problems at Kroger, Marsh, CVS, Wags either.
I want to thank everyone for the time they put in and the work you do so that I and others can come here and get educated and spend less money. Thank you!!

I have had problems using coupons for trial size items almost every single time I have tried at Target. Even if the coupon doesn’t exclude it, even adjusting the price down, even if I have the coupon policy in hand. It’s always a hassle.
When I have contacted Target, they always reply with their standard coupon policy, but lately they have added that using coupons is at the store’s discretion. So basically, the policy only means so much if your Target store doesn’t want to take them. I think I’ll try for the trial size items at drug store chains instead.

I have also had issues with coupons at Target. But if they don’t take my coupons, and that means the Target coupon AND the manufacturer’s coupon for the single item, I tell the person at the register “well then I don’t want that item”. They usually take my coupons at that point, although they aren’t happy, I think its easier than voiding the item and sometimes the first coupon they have already scanned.
