DIY Teachers Wreath

What, you guys don’t think that I made this?

Okay fine, I’ll admit it… if I wasn’t homeschooling, our teacher appreciation gifts would probably be in the form of a Starbucks gift card inside of a travel mug.

I’m not naturally crafty at all, even though I *am* stepping out of my comfort zone to join in with a group of professional DIYers in the {ditty} DIY challenge every month (we would love for you to join in too – my favorite part about this month’s challenge was looking through what everyone else made!)

So today I was on Facebook and saw this beautiful picture of a crayon wreath from my friend Erica come through my newsfeed, and begged asked her if she wouldn’t mind me sharing how to make it with you guys!

This project is very budget-friendly and doesn’t look like it would take too much time either!

Here’s how to make it (directions from Erica):

Materials you will need:

  • 12 in. embroidery hoop
  • 9 in. embroidery hoop
  • 6 boxes of crayons
  • Ribbon
  • Spray paint (optional)
  • Hot glue gun or super glue
  • additional decoration if desired

Directions:

Spray paint the hoops the color of your choice (but not absolutely necessary).

Set the 9 in. hoop inside your 12 in. hoop and begin to glue each end of the crayon to the hoops (I put the tip of the crayon pointing out).

Continue this almost all the way around your hoops.

Make sure you loop your ribbon through the top of your wreath before all the crayons at the top are glued down. For the section with the ribbon, I glued the bottom of the crayon to the 9 inch embroidery loop and the top of the crayon to the ribbon. I used a small dot of super glue under the ribbon for extra support.

You can also do two layers of crayons just to give it a fuller look, but you can stop after one layer if you would like!

If you want to add letters and other extra wooden decorations (you can get these at any craft store), then after they are painted glue the wooden pieces and letters on top of the crayons.
