Swimming Diaper Secret!

How much do you spend each summer on swimming diapers? It seems that every pool and waterpark now requires all children under age 2 to have them… and if you swim a lot during the summer the cost can add up pretty quickly (even when you buy them with coupons!)

I was talking to a friend a few weeks ago about the cost of swimming diapers and she said, “Oh, I just wash and dry mine and reuse them.”

Wait…. WHAT???

So I thought about how the swim diapers really are more like thicker underwear since they don’t absorb at all very well. And since we are coming up on a family vacation to the beach where we will be going through LOTS of swim diapers I thought to myself, “What could it hurt to try it?”

So I did. And it worked. Exactly like my friend said it would. After a cycle through the washer and dryer they are still just as absorbent as they were before, and the elastic is still just as stretchy. Yay!!

Oh the money we will save this weekend! (Well, except for the gas to get to the beach, and the food, and the hotel, and and and…)

I just use my cloth diapers! I use GoGreen Pocket diapers, minus the super absorbant microfiber liner and they work great! They are $10 a pop (really cheap in the cloth diaper world) and you can even use them in a pinch if you run out of disposables, or use the microfiber insert as a cleaning pad if you're not a cloth junkie :).

I don't get it! I bought the swim diapers but how do they really even work? Aren't they going to fill up with pool water? How will they absorb pee then? How do they keep pee out of the pool?

I'm with you... I don't really understand it either because they don't absorb AT ALL. They don't fill up with pool water, so I *think* their only purpose is to catch any of the really nasty stuff. Many pools require them though, so I guess we'll keep getting them.

Yay! This is great news. I never would have thought of it. Unfortunately, we just ran out last week!

I use reusable swim diapers. Much cheaper, since we have a pool and go out there at least 3-4 times a week. Not including beach time. :)Also, for the cloth diaper users - we use those in our pool. Way more absorbent than any other diaper.

I have done this for years! I have a daycare and we go through ALOT of swim diapers in the summer! You can really only dry them about 3 times and then they start to fray but that is better than nothing! Stock up at the end of the season sales and get ready for next year!

The Dollar Tree had swim "diapers" for sale last summer. It's like swim trunks w/ plastic underneath. My baby was only 3 months old at the time, and she's a girl and the pattern was in a boy print, but I bought them anyway. And so glad that I did because I haven't seen anything like it since. It's the best dollar that I have ever spent.

This is the best news I could have heard!!

I have bought swimm diapers that u reuse and wash at Babies r us and if u plan ahead buy them for the next year at the end of summer on clearance for a couple bucks!!

I live in Las Vegas and we go swimming practically EVERY day. I got my reusable swim diapers for $4 each at babies r us at the beginning of summer. I only need two pair-one to wash and one to wear. Oh and if you want to go really cheap, I have also used the plastic pants that go over underwear while training- yup they do the job too! (because let's be honest here while IN the water...the swim diaper isn't going to absorb anything.) Don't waste money on disposable swim diapers.

Have you tried reusables? I know buy buy baby sells them for around $10 each. Just something in case those start falling apart.
