I FINALLY made my way over to Super Target on Thursday night. I had been trying to go every night since Monday and it just didn’t work out.
You can see all of the coupon match-ups for this trip HERE.
Here’s what I got (from left to right starting in the back):
3 boxes of Smartfood popcorn
5 boxes of 100 Calorie Packs snacks
2 boxes of Rice Krispies (on sale for $1.99, then used a $1/1 coupon)
2 boxes of Frost Mini Wheats (on sale for $1.99 – used a B1G1 coupon and a $1/1 coupon)
3 boxes of Kashi Waffles
10 Easy Macs (the B1G1 coupon from the 5/3 Parade magazine took off $1.99 instead of 77¢ making it a money maker!!)
6 trial sizes of Axe Shower gel
2 Boxes of Quaker True Delights Granola Bars
3 Whole All Natural Chickens
10 bottles of Mayonaise (not all for us!)
5 Bottles of Joint Juice
Organic Celery
2 bags of Organic Apples
9 Hershey’s Bliss bars (by the register)
10 packages of Kraft Natural Shredded cheese
3 Target Dish scrubbers (they were on clearance for 90¢ each, then I used the 75¢/1 Target cleaning item coupon making them only 15¢ each!)
How much would all of this have cost without the sale/coupons? $169.32
How much did I pay? $32.17
That’s a savings of 81%!
So I have to tell you guys about my interaction with the cashier. Here’s how the conversation went:
Me (as I’m coming up to the register holding all of my manuf. and Target coupons): “Hi! I’m so sorry – I have a whole lot of coupons! Do you need me to put everything into separate transactions, or can I just do it all at once?”
Cashier (smiling back): “Oh, you can just do it all at once.”
Me: “Great!”
(Cashier rings up everything)
(I hand the cashier all of the manufacturer coupons)
Me: “I know it’s a lot of coupons, but all of the barcodes are different on the printable coupons, so you can tell that they haven’t been copied.”
(Cashier smiles, agrees, and scans my manuf. coupons)
(I then give her all of my Target coupons)
Me: “And here are all of my Target coupons.”
Cashier starts to scan them and then says: “I don’t know if I can scan so many coupons at once.”
Me: “Oh, I’m so sorry. That’s why I asked if I needed to do separate transactions when I first came up.”
Cashier: “I just didn’t realize it would be so many. (Pauses) Well, okay.”
(Finishes scanning all of the coupons!)
THE END!
By the way, I would have been more than willing to separate everything into separate transactions if she would have said that I needed to. It’s always good to ask ahead of time.
My good friend Stephanie over at Couponing 101 had an awesome Target trip too! Make sure to check out her post HERE.

What a great shopping trip. I sure wish I had a Super Target near me.

That is pretty much how my transaction this week went too! Pretty smooth!!!

Last week I had the crabbiest cashier and she made my trip not fun but this week I had a great cashier and it made going to Target well worth it. Unfortunately our Kraft Salad Dressing is $1.99 a bottle but my Kroger is only $1.59 and also the Kraft BBQ sauce was like $1.49. I live in Michigan and you must have a much better store. I’m always so disappointed when the prices aren’t the same as other people are finding.

Wow, that’s impressive! I’ve learned that asking ahead of time saves a lot of trouble too – in fact I would even be willing to stand in line again for the benefit of others. I haven’t had very good luck with Target cashiers – and like you said, it’s always good to be ready in case you need to split it up.

Does Target only allow a certain # of coupons per transactions? Is that why you offered to do multiple transactions?

I wish we had a Super Target closer too! My first trip went well – thanks for the coaching!! Spent 35 including diapers. I had fun! Had to call the manager over a $1 coupon..lol..but it all worked out. THANKS again! Liz

I have yet to have a cashier who doesn’t mind all the coupons. There isn’t one who will do all of my coupons in one transaction because it says on the target coupons one per transaction.
I am going to try your approach next time and see if it works for me. The deals at target are unbelievable and I love going there….wish me luck.

ugh, my cashier was so annoying! i got a trial size all for like, a trial size degree deo, and a trial size st ives body wash and i had coupons that didnt say you couldnt use it on trial size items, and the value of the coupon was more the actual item but she would refuse to adjust the coupon, so i didnt want to make a scene since it was saturday afternoon with all the people there so i told her to leave it be. oh well, maybe next time

WAHOOO!! COngrats on all in one trans!! I think that probably saved you and the cashier like 5 minutes!! I had a great experience this week at Target also, I had to do 7 diff. transactions, but I feel it was well worth it just for the 7 free bliss bars, .l7 pringles, and free quaker bites!! I’ve still got a lot of learning to do and it makes me a bit jealous when I see ALL that you got!! I’m on my way though, not too shabby for a first time! THanks for all your tips!!

That’s funny, I too had a grumpy cashier last week and this week they didn’t seem totally overwhelmed and irritated with me…makes me think maybe they had a meeting or got a memo from corporate or something! I’d love to know how those coupon conversations go from the cashiers on up the chain!

My trip last week to Target went much smoother than this week. When I handed the cashier my coupons she went through them one by one and kept handing coupons back to me. She would only let me use one copy of the target coupons and she did not understand that you could use target coupons and manuf coupons. She would not let me use the coupon for the bliss candy by the register(the coupon has a picture of the bag)so she assumed it was just for the bag. To top it off half of my coupons did not scan through and she just ignored it. I was so mad, but I had to get my screaming daughter out of the store, so I could not deal with it. I was very upset with this trip and ended up spending $30 dollars more than I should of! The cashier can make all of the difference. This cashier did not understand that coupons can make a difference and was just annoyed by them. Maybe next time will be better.

what is it with Target!!! I think they think they don’t need my business…They will not take the coupons if the coupon exceeds this price of theitem even with the suggestions that they onlly take off the ‘real’ price, and the attitude of the cashiers, and management. I’m ready to chuck Target as my list of stores..
whew I feel better already !!

I had an awful experience at Target last week. The cashier was very rude. They were getting ready to close. I had coupons for everything in the basket but only had about 10 items for each of my two transactions. She tried to give me back almost every coupon claiming I couldnt use mfg and target Q’s together or it wasnt the same as the picture. She called the front end manager and in the end was proven wrong on every account. Then she had the nerve to say to the people behind us that she was sorry “we” took so long. She was the one that didn’t know how to do her job. The next morning I called the manager and complained that we were treated like criminals for having coupons (have never done that before) he said he would pull the video and watch how she acted towards us and would make sure it didnt happen again. I went back this week just to see (different cashier though) and she was overly friendly about the coupons. So I am hoping they will get better.

SHUT UP!!!!! Are you serious??? WOW!!! How awesome. Fabulous job. I haven’t really spent as much time as I should shopping at Target. I don’t have a super target that’s really close but this is VERY inspiring!! Nice job.

The Mayo and Kraft Cheese were $1.99 each before coupons. You can see all of the coupon matchups for the things that I bought in this trip here: http://www.survivingthestores.com/2009/05/target-deals-510-516.html

LOL! My cashier was the sweetest thing ever, but she questioned some of my Q’s b/c some were exactly the same. I promised her they were not copied, and the manager didn’t even look at them, she just said they were internet Q’s and they were fine. I had more cash register “beeps”, and she just punched ‘em on through.
Woot! Great shopping trip, Rachel!
