Did you guys know I used to sell guardrail? Yep… guardrail. I bet you’ve never met someone who sold guardrail. I never had, until I started selling it. Did you also know that you can get a free $5 gift card to Amazon, Target, Walmart, iTunes and more when you sign up for this rad new rewards program? How are these two connected, you ask? When I was out selling guardrail I would sometimes stop at Walmart for gas. A free $5 in gas sure would have been nice. (see? obvious connection ;) )

You want another free gift card, but this time for $10? Comment on this post with the craziest job you’ve every done (umm… please keep it max PG) and we’ll randomly select a winner.

TOMS is back today. But that free $5 gift card didn’t touch that TOMS deal. Nothing will ever touch the TOMS deal, because TOMS is the greatest product ever made in the history of the universe (go here if you missed yesterday’s news, this will make more sense).

Speaking of giveaways… did you guys see our Facebook post on who won the 4 Boxes of Golden French Toast K-Cups? I can’t wait until next week when we give away 4 All Expense Paid 7-Day Executive Cruises on… Carnival Cruise Lines! What, the idea of a Carnival Cruise lost its appeal?

I use to make explosives for gas wells ! now that was crazy !

    • Ryan @ Surviving The Stores says:

WOW…. did you get to watch them go off? If so, I don’t think I could conceive of a better job than that!

      • Karen Lancaster says:

I saw a couple accidently go off LOL fortunately it wasn’t me. And actually my husband worked for a competing company and his job was to test the charges . He had a Blast

    • Ryan @ Surviving The Stores says:

Oh, and you also are the winner of the Amazon gift card! :) Email Rachel at rachel AT survivingthestores.com and she will get the gift card over to you. Congrats and thanks for commenting!

  2. Megan Whitten says:

The craziest job I’ve ever had – I once delivered phone books. It was in the sweltering October heat in south Georgia. It took me two days because I chose a long route for more money. Yeah, the best and hardest $90 I’ve ever earned!!

    • Ryan @ Surviving The Stores says:

It’s amazing you lasted two days at that job. I would have lasted two hours, maybe. I grew up in Houston, so I know how bad that southern summer heat can get. Kudos to you. :)

  3. I used to sell pantyhose, over the telephone. We had to create our own customer base by offering free pantyhose for every three referrals our customers gave us. This was back in the 90′s and I completely saturated Southwestern Bell. Every woman in that company was buying their pantyhose from me.

    • Ryan @ Surviving The Stores says:

If we weren’t selecting winners randomly and only by judging who actually had the craziest job you would win this one EASY. I have never, ever heard of or would have conceived of the idea of selling pantyhose over the phone. Maybe a pantyhose tupperware like party, but over the phone? Either way, it sounds like you did well, at least to the telephone business!

  4. I helped my mom deliver telephone books! We had to pull them up and down the street in our wagon.

    • Ryan @ Surviving The Stores says:

That is awesome Stacy. Pulling a wagon up and down the street delivering stuff… very 1940′s feel to it. :)

  5. Cleaning repo’d trailers in GA for a friend’s cleaning business. Not only did they still have stuff in them, they were NASTY!!!

  6. Selling Kirby vacuum cleaners (remember them?) door-to-door-what a job! The stories I could tell you….

    • We still have the Kirby guys come to our door from time to time!

“Hey, how would you like to get one room of your carpet cleaned for free? No strings attached! I was just at your neighbor so-and-so’s house and they loved how great their carpet looked after I cleaned it. I can go get the machine right now if you would like… it will only take a minute.”

      And 3 hours later…

      :)

  7. this was truly a “crappy” job, I made money with my little brother during the hot summer of 1986, cleaning up people’s dog poop in their back yards.

  8. Grave digger back in the 90′s. Somebody needs to do it!
