Speed Up Your PC – The Frugal Way!

As a blogger, and frequent printer of online coupons, there is nothing that frustrates me more than a slow computer. My old hand-me-down Dell laptop has certainly seen better days. And when I say old, we’re talking just over 2 years!

I recently decided to do something about my slow-as-molasses system before I chucked it out the window. Thankfully, just before I called the Geek Squad in sheer desperation, I came across a very timely article over on High Impact Mom.

Amanda’s husband, Jon, wrote a detailed post about Troubleshooting Slow and Stuttering Computer Processes. Just what I needed! He recommends cleaning your PC with a free download called CCleaner. Now I am normally leery of anything you must download, but since I know and trust Amanda, I decided to give it a shot.

I followed the instructions in the post to the letter. After completing the tasks, I nervously rebooted my Dell and opened all my normal windows. So did it work?

Yes! I am happy to report that I can now switch between windows with ease, and no longer sit impatiently waiting for simple tasks to load.

Was this a permanent fix? I honestly don’t know. I probably need to upgrade my RAM (total physical memory) to see a major impact. But for now, this frugal girl is very happy with the outcome.

CCleaner is THE BEST! I run it on all our computers about once a week and it works wonders. Been using it for about 3 years now, never had a problem with it =)

Thanks for the tip! I usually try clearing out my temporary Internet files and cookie files. The coupon printing sites and manufacturers' websites seem to leave a nice little trail behind on my machine, but clearing everything regularly does the trick. Maybe I'll try the CCleaner to see if that speeds it up even more.

I'm SO sorry for your loss! I am praying for that peace that surpasses all understanding. The peace that can only come from our Father in Heaven.

We just found CCleaner too! Only thing is it erases all my stored passwords to all my fave sites! But you just have to put them in again. Worth it to have a faster computer!

I have the CCleaner downloaded and just set it to analyze. The list that came up to be deleted looked like it was going to erase several pictures and ebooks as well. Anyone have any tips about this? TIA!!
