Setting Goals for 2010

January 6, 2010 · 4 comments

Goal setting is not something that comes naturally to me. In fact, planning doesn’t come naturally either. I love living spontaneously (some would say that I procrastinate, but I think living spontaneously sounds much better!) and so intensive planning and goal setting are just a little out of my comfort zone.

Now, for all of you “task-oriented” people out there, planning and goal setting are obvious necessities for you. I’m sure you have your to-do list and day planner right next to you at your computer (in fact, you might even have “set goals for 2010″ listed there!) But for those of you who are like me, I want to encourage you to do something that will go against every extroverted/relational (i.e. non task-oriented)/spontaneous bone in your body. I want to encourage you to sit down at some point in the next couple of weeks and write out your goals for this next year.

Focus on a couple of areas and write down specifics. When my husband and I sit down later this week to discuss our goals for 2010 we will be focusing mostly on our financial goals and blogging goals (I will share many of these goals with you guys in a few days too!)

These goals could be anything from how much you desire to spend each week on groceries, to saving for a specific item, to parenting goals. Write them out and then look at them at least once a month to make sure that you are on track. If you keep those goals in sight, you will be amazed at what can happen in just a year’s time!

And don’t worry, you don’t have to give up your fun-filled, spontaneous lifestyle to set goals… I promise! :)

What about you guys? Is setting goals easy for you? What are some of your goals for this next year?

Um yeah… this type A gal right here has been planning her goals for 2010 for over a month, including a complete 3 page list of goals with spread sheet to keep track of progress! I’m determined to make this the year for change! Everything from consistent meal planning to reading the Bible in 90 days- it’s on my list! Good luck!

Were you referring to me when you mentioned the person with the planner and to-do list right next to their computer? lol.

I am for sure a goal-setting person! I wish I could adopt some of your spontaneity!

@Stephanie, Ha! No, I wasn’t thinking about you specifically when I wrote it, but now that you mention it, the description would definitely apply. :)

I am like you, Rachel! I have never sat down and made a list of goals for the year. What a challenge! I wouldn’t know where to begin. I guess I am too “Type B” in that sense. Maybe my life would have more direction. You have inspired me to try it.
