Are you a member of the Nielsen Consumer Panel? If not, it is a great way to earn prizes simply by scanning your groceries. For me, it was a couple of months after I signed up that I got invited to participate in the home consumer panel, so if you are interested, make sure to sign up sooner than later since it can take a little while to be accepted.
Once you are accepted, they will send you a scanner like the one pictured below. Then, when you go shopping you just scan your groceries as you put them up. You connect the scanner to your computer and upload the data (it does this for you). Each time you do this you earn points toward some great prizes!

I was a member for a couple of years, before they had it connect to the computer, it was over the phone line, and at that time they required a lot of information (scan, quantity, price, deals, coupon, all per item). It was okay until I had trouble with the base, the recharger for the scanner, and then they got nasty so I sent it all back, never even got anything with my last points either although I tried! Maybe they have changed over the past few years.
what kind of prizes can you get?
I really enjoy doing this… it is fun! I haven't received any prizes, yet b/c I'm "working" up to some things.
Electronics, home appliances, tools, toys, jewelry – they have a lot of prizes to choose from.
It's much easier now that you just hook it up to your computer!
