Surviving The Stores Meals With My Deals

Grab The Button!

I don’t know about you guys, but I think that spending $3 for a small and large pizza is a GREAT deal. My original plan was to get two small pizzas since both would have been free, but Ryan wanted a large instead and Mr. Jim’s was giving large upgrades for only $3! When have you ever seen large pizzas on sale for $3?? So we opted for one small and one large and it was way more than enough to feed our family of 5.

We took the pizzas to the park and had a little picnic in the pavilion, but before we left to pick up the pizzas I HAD to make some caramelized onions to go on top of my pizza. YUM!! If you haven’t tried caramelized onions on top of pizza, I highly recommend it (I would’ve added sauteed mushrooms too if we would’ve had some on hand).  In my opinion sauteed onions and mushrooms make just about anything taste better!

Normally I will have recipes on Meals With My Deals, but this was such a fun treat I had to share it with you guys!! :)

Now it’s your turn! What kind of recipes did you come up with to use with your deals? Please link directly to your frugal recipe below.

I also highly recommend heading over to $5 Dinners Bargain Meal Of The Week where she categorizes meals by different store deals!

If you like caramelized onions and steak, I’ve got a great Pizza recipe for you…

    1 T vegetable oil
2 Large onions (about 1# total) sliced thin
    1 1/4 t montreal steak seasoning
2 boneless strip steaks (about 8 oz each) 1/2 to 3/4″ thick
1 large (14 ounce) baked pizza crust (such as boboli)
    2 T deli-style mustard
1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
    1 cup shredded provolone cheese

    1. Heat broiler. Spray pan with non stick cooking spray
    2. Heat oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onions and 1/2 t of the steak stasoning. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until translucent and light browned.
    3. While onions are cooking, season steaks with 3/4 t of the steak seasoning. Broil for 2 minutes per side. Remove from broiler and slice thin against the grain.
    4. Plave pizza crust on the broiler pan and spread with mustard. Sprinkle half the cheddar and half the provolone over the top then add he sliced steak and onions. Sprinkle remaining cheese over steak. Broil 1 minute until cheese melts and steak is heated.
    5. remove to cutting board and cut.

This is exactly how it was printed out of a family circle magazine. I usually also add a couple tablespons of pizza sauce to the crust. Also, I use whatever kind of cheese I have on hand- usually a 4 cheese blend. This isn’t a super cheap recipe to make as the boboli crusts are around $5. You can usually get a 2 pack of generic crusts for less per crust if you have use for 2. A pound of onion sounds like a lot, but shrinks a lot when it is cooked. I’ve actually used more!

    • @Suzette, That sounds awesome! I’m a little nervous about trying it with mustard though… do you put pizza sauce and mustard on it or just the pizza sauce?

      • Suzette says:

I actually put the mustard on there too. It sounds nasty, but it adds something. And 2 Tablespoons on an entire pizza isn’t much. If you are leary about the mustard, put the pizza sauce on first. The store bought crusts have little holes in them. If you put the mustard on the crust first it will fill the holes and you will have areas with a higher concentration of mustard. Or just try it on half. I use grey poupon.
