Get a FREE pool test kit from the Water Quality and Health Council HERE. The free test kit comes with the necessary supplies to test for Chorine levels and proper pH.
We have a neighborhood pool in our community and I am always nervous about bringing the kids to it. Maybe I can get some peace of mind (or have another reason to stay away from it!) with this kit. 
just FYI....may pool stores will test the water for you...we take a sample to our local store and the computer prints out our results and what we need to do to get our levels perfect.
