This past summer Alyssa over at Keeping The Kingdom First wrote a guest post here on Surviving The Stores about a FREE computer clean-up software called CCleaner. I immediately downloaded it to our slow-as-molasses desktop and it really did help a bunch!
This past week Alyssa wrote a post about a great, and most importantly, FREE anti-virus solution for your computer called AVG Free. You can read all about it over at Keeping The Kingdom First HERE. We have used AVG Free on our desktop for a couple of years and it has done an excellent job of protecting our PC.

Microsoft’s FREE solution, Security Essentials, is actually rated higher in comparison tests by a third party company. It was found to detect more of the newer viruses and spyware by AVG. I’ve been in information security for 20+ years and, after testing the product, it’s the first time I’ve been willing to replace to Mcafee. FREE is nice, but you have to make sure the product is doing its job and doing it well. Especially if you’re doing online shopping or banking. You can download Security Essentials directly from Microsoft’s website if you’re interested.
I have been using AVG for quite sometime and it is very good. It found and repaired viruses that MacAfee could not! Thank you for all your tips – they are very helpful.
After getting a virus—-major virus at that, could not open anything(we were using protection and still caught one) so we had our computer “cleaned up” and the man asked if he could install some FREE virus protection for us…HE said that it was free, it worked great and that he used it. My husband told him sure—-IT WAS AVG and I must say that it does work great! Being a blogger, I have gone to certain sites to check out freebies or coupons and our virus protction has stopped me because the site could be damaging to our computer! So far we love AVG!!!!
