In addition to raising the cost of first-class stamps to 46¢ last month, the USPS has announced that they will also be cutting Saturday delivery starting on August 1, 2013.
It is proposed that regular Saturday service be stopped for homes AND businesses, although packages sent via USPS will continue to be delivered on Saturday (I’m wondering if Netflix will count as a package?)
The USPS actually says that 7 out of 10 Americans support the switch to 5 day delivery so I’m curious about you guys. Do you think this will be a good move for the USPS who lost $15.9 BILLION last year?
If you don’t, you might want to give your representatives in congress a call. According to this article in the Wall Street Journal:
“The plan to end Saturday delivery could meet resistance from members of Congress, and it is unclear of [sic] the agency can take the step without lawmaker approval. For many years, the annual appropriations bill has contained a rider that prevents the Postal Service from ending Saturday delivery.”
What do you think?
Also, make sure that before the holidays you sign up for FedEx Delivery Manager – It’s completely free and has a ton of great features including signing for packages online, setting the exact time you want a shipment delivered, request a hold at a FedEx location, and more!
