CVS and Walgreens 5/10 – 90% savings!

I spent a little more this week than I normally do because I needed diapers, really wanted the Omega 3 Fish Oils, and I didn’t have any Register Rewards from last week to use at Walgreens this week (hubby used them to buy sunglasses last week!) :)

To view the coupon matchups you can go HERE (Walgreens) and HERE (CVS).

At CVS (everything on the left side of the table) I started off with $10 in ECBs and I have $8 left for next week.

I did four transactions at CVS and spent a total of $2.99 out of pocket! Without the sale/coupons it would have cost me $80.12 (I didn’t count the Contour meter in this total b/c I wouldn’t have gotten it otherwise).

At Walgreens (everything on the right side) I started off with $0 Register Rewards and I ended with $8 Register Rewards (which I used to buy the diapers).

I did seven transactions and spent $13.16 out of pocket. Without the sale/coupons it would have cost me $81.29.

So, I spent a grand total of $16.15 out of pocket for $161.41 worth of stuff!! That’s a savings of 90%!

We will end up using everything except the Skippy, Glucose Meter, Bayer Quick Release, and the Roots of Nature products (all of these will be donated.)

Anonymous,For the items in the picture, I did four transaction at CVS and I did SEVEN at Walgreens. If I would've started out with $6.50 in RRs my out of pocket cost would've been much lower! I'm sure you'll have a great trip!I pretty much followed the scenario that I posted on Saturday except all but one of my "filler" items were paper towels. You can see that scenario here: http://www.survivingthestores.com/2009/05/walgreens-scenario-for-510-516.html

Priya,As far as I know, you can use one CVS coupon and one manufactuer's coupon per item, PLUS any ECBs that you have.

I'm soo new to couponing (2 wks in) and can't figure out how u got so much stuff in only 3 transactions at walgreens. Any help in the brake down will be appreciated. I still have 6.50 in RR from last week and I'm itching to use them! LOL!!

Rachel thanks for that quick reply... still have a doubt about CVS. does the CVS in store printed coupon after a transcation and ECB both be used for the same item. like if have a CVS in store printed coupon for $2 off Jergens mosituriser. Can i use this when i buy Jergens mosituriser and pay the rest with ECB? which would be 2 CVS coupons itself.

Rachel, great shopping! Quick question, how do you calculate your savings? I think Im doing it wrong and would probably come out with even more savings, I started a blog to watch my scenarios carefully. (You were the inspiration behind the name 3>)

Priya,You are correct about the Register Rewards. The amount doesn't matter as long as the value of all the coupons doesn't exceed the price (they won't give overage).CVS is different, since the ECBs count as a CVS coupon and not as a manufacturer's coupon. If you just were to buy one item, you could use a manufacturer's coupon and an ECB without haven't to buy anything extra.

so does same apply even for CVS... if we have a CVS in store printed coupon for a certain item & have a EB, then having a filler should get us that item on a good price?

so r we saying that, if we buy item x & y(filler) pass the manufacture coupon for item x and a RR even if the RR value is more than item y cost as its just a filler. It should work to get the item x at a good deal price?

Anonymous,I would recommend grabbing a couple of inexpensive "filler" items (like candy or pencils - this week I used paper towels since we needed some). That way if the RR beeps you can just give them another item. You can't have more coupons (including Register Rewards) than you have items. For example:If I buy two items and I use two manufacturer coupons for those items, I can't then also use a Register Reward (that would be two items and three coupons). I would need to buy a cheap "filler" item which would make it three items and three coupons.Does that make sense?

Dolli-Mama,I pretty much followed the scenario that I posted yesterday for the Walgreens trip. You can view it here: http://www.survivingthestores.com/2009/05/walgreens-scenario-for-510-516.html - except I got the paper towels for all but one of my "filler" items.

Woot! Good stuff, girl! Went to CVS today, will head to Walgreens tomorrow.

Today was the first day that I had a problem at Walgreens. I could not use my Register Rewards because the # of coupons exceeded the # of items bought. They counted my register rewards as coupons. Have you had this problem?

Is it possible for you to detail your Walgreens transactions? I linked to your post for the coupon matchups but it didn't spell out your transaction plan. I am sure I can figure it out, but it would be helpful since you did 7 transactions and you are a coupon genius, so I will have to spend some serious time figuring out how to duplicate this! Thank you for all of the great posts!

Great transactions! I still haven't made it to CVS yet, but hope to this week! :)

You did great. I got a few of the same things, just not as many. http://homemom3.blogspot.com
