How To Change The Zip Code On The New Coupons.com Site!

Whether you’re a fan of the new format of Coupons.com or not (I’m not a fan), it looks like it’s here to stay and we might as well get used to it.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, they have changed the format of how they post the coupons and it’s not quite as easy to change the zip code.  In fact, many of you guys have asked how to do it now that the little zip code box is gone from the top left of the screen.

It’s still pretty easy to change, although it does take a couple more steps than it did before…

1.  Go to the Coupons.com website.

2.  Click on the “Local Coupons” tab.

3.  Change the zip code to whichever one you want to use.

4.  Click on the “Coupons” tab to see the coupons for the zip code you entered!

Like I said, a few more steps to do it, but still easy enough!

Saturday

We are excited to add a weekly question and answer feature to Surviving the Stores!  It doesn’t matter if you are just starting to tighten your budget belt, or if you are a seasoned couponing veteran, there is always new information to be learned. This will be a great resource for everybody!  So if you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask - chances are there are plenty more people out there wondering the same thing ;)

Q: There are tons of rewards programs out there.  Which ones are actually worth the time it takes to join?

A: Rewards programs are great places to score high value (or FREE product) coupons as well as other nice perks!  Here are my favorites:

  • MyCokeRewards- save the codes on the inside tab of your cases of coke products, or under the caps of the plastic bottles and enter them for points.  I use my points for FREE Coke Product 12-pks 99% of the time.  They also offer other prizes for reduced points on Wednesdays, so if you can remember to check it out, you can score some great deals there also! **You can get the most out of your FREE 12 pk coupons by using them with B2G3 FREE sales at Safeway or Safeway affiliate stores!**
  • Pampers Gifts to Grow- even if you aren’t in the market for buying diapers, there are always tons of codes put out on the internet that you can redeem for prizes…and moms, don’t forget to enter the codes from your diaper and wipes packages.  You can enter them via text message to make it even easier!  The prizes range from toys, magazine subscriptions, bikes, etc.
  • Huggies Enjoy the Ride- very similar to the Pampers program.  You can enter codes from your packages, plus there are many released on the internet.
  • Lean Cuisine Delicious Rewards- I love this program because I frequently grab Lean Cuisines for a quick lunch or dinner.  Enter codes on the inside of your Lean Cuisine boxes and earn prizes such as free product coupons, cute kitchen gadgets, and my favorite…lunch bags!  They also have a section of their site where you can earn points by doing short surveys once a month.
  • Stouffer’s Dinner Club- Very similar to the Lean Cuisine program…enter codes from packages, doing surveys, or sometimes free codes are released online.  I have used my points for free product coupons in the past.
  • Nature Made Wellness Rewards- There is inevitably a great vitamin deal at one of the major drug stores at any given time…get even more out of those great deals by collecting points toward high value coupons.  I recently cashed in some points for a $7/1 coupon- that could mean 2 free bottles during the next great sale :)
  • Starbucks Rewards- If you frequent Starbucks, make sure you buy gift cards and register them on their site.  You will earn a point for every purchase you make.  Points will accumulate and earn you free drinks :)  You will also be eligible for other perks like free refills, a free drink on your birthday, free syrup or soy milk in your drink and more!
  • Disney Movie Rewards- Earn points by entering codes off Disney movie packages, movie tickets, or by finding codes on the internet.  Use your points towards Disney merchandise, gift cards, or occasional high value coupons!
  • Swagbucks is a search engine similar to Google (it’s actually powered by Google and Ask.com). But instead of only getting the information you are looking for when you search, you get the opportunity to get points. And these points add up so that you can get gift cards!  There are quite a few ways to maximize your ability to earn points- read more about Swagbucks here!

We post the codes for many of the programs on our Facebook page so be sure to “Like” the Surviving The Stores Facebook page so that you can stay on top of the codes as they come out!

Do you belong to any great rewards programs?  Tell us about them!

Q&A: How Do I Get The Most Out Of My Toy Budget?

We are excited to add a weekly question and answer feature to Surviving the Stores!  It doesn’t matter if you are just starting to tighten your budget belt, or if you are a seasoned couponing veteran, there is always new information to be learned. This will be a great resource for everybody!  So if you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask - chances are there are plenty more people out there wondering the same thing ;)

Q: What is the best way to save money on toys?

A: Anybody who has children in their family knows how easy it is to get sucked into spending top dollar on the most popular and expensive toys- but there are a few great strategies that can help you save a lot of money and still get the items that your child wants!

  • Buy toys throughout the year as they go on sale.  Combine store sales with manufacturer or store coupons.  When buying online use coupon and/or free shipping codes (and don’t forget cash back sites like Ebates)!
  • Don’t need the toys at the time that you can get the best deal?  Keep them in a hidden place (i.e. “toy closet”) so you have them on hand for holidays, special occasions, or for that Birthday party coming up this weekend that you totally forgot about :)
  • Here’s a little secret: toys go in and out of “season” just like clothing- even though they can be played with all year long!  Stores will regularly try to clear the shelves to make room for the next season’s hot toys by putting their current inventory on a deep price cut.  For example, Target has a HUGE toy clearance in January and July with prices cut as much as 75%- Walmart and Kmart have similar sales too!  If you know when your favorite store is marking items down, you can be there at the right time to make a huge haul- just think…a year’s worth of toy shopping in one day, for 75% off!  How do you find out when this happens?  We always post about the Target Toy Clearance each year, which is my favorite clearance sale to go to!  Take a look at this shopping trip from the Target toy clearance…

That’s $600 worth of popular, name-brand toys that cost only $150.  Not too bad considering that is enough toys for more than one Christmas, Birthday and other occasions for more than 1 child :)

  • Have you started using Swagbucks yet?  This is a program in which you earn “Swabgbucks” in a number of different ways.  You can use their internet search tool, take surveys, enter codes found on their blog or facebook page, etc.  You can cash out your points for Amazon.com gift cards- a great way to have a little “toy money stash” ready for special occasions!
  • Keep an eye on the “Flash Sale” sites such as Zulily or Totsy that often have short sales on brand name toys such as Melissa and Doug, One Step Ahead, etc.  These sites have coupon codes available or shipping specials on occasion that can make their deals even better!

Do you have a “toy closet”?  What creative ways have you found to save money on toys?

How Can You Tell The Difference Between A Manufacturer’s Coupon & A Store Coupon?

We are excited to add a weekly question and answer feature to Surviving the Stores!  It doesn’t matter if you are just starting to tighten your budget belt, or if you are a seasoned couponing veteran, there is always new information to be learned. This will be a great resource for everybody!  So if you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask - chances are there are plenty more people out there wondering the same thing ;)

Q: How can I tell the difference between a Manufacturer’s coupon and a Store coupon?

A: This is a great question because it can be a little tricky sometimes!  But once you know a few key points, it will be easy to tell the difference between the two.  Here is a manufacturer’s coupon:

  • It is clearly marked “Manufacturer’s Coupon” at the top
  • There are redemption instructions for the retailer in the fine print (this is how they get reimbursed from the company who releases the coupon)

Now take a look at a Store Coupon:

  • It is clearly marked a “Target Web Coupon” at the top.  Other stores may just state, “Store Coupon”.  There is no mention of the manufacturer.
  • There are no redemption instructions for the retailer (the store does not get reimbursed for store coupons)

Those examples are pretty straight forward…but what about this one?

This coupon is marked “Manufacturer’s Coupon”, but it has “available at” or “redeemable at” and a specific store’s logo.

These are still manufacturer’s coupons and can be used at any store that accepts manufacturer’s coupons! Walmart just pays extra to have their branding on the coupon.

Hopefully that helps to clear up some of the confusion!
