**Parental note** If you are buying a Kindle for your child you may want to consider spending a little more and getting the non-special offers version. Even though the Kindle Fire has great parental controls, it’s pretty much a wild card on what ads are going to pop up in the Special Offers version, some of which you may not be comfortable with your child seeing. I hope that helps some of you with your decision on which one to get if you were thinking about grabbing one for your child. 🙂 You can also purchase the Kindle Fire HD Kids Edition instead.**

  1. Was waiting for a deal! Thanks!

  2. On the website it says it is the ´deal of the day´. I believe it expires at midnight.

  3. How does the Kindle compare to an ipad? Thinking of getting this for my kids so they will stop stealing mom and da´s ipad! Will they be able to get apps like angry birds on here?

  4. This is an attractive deal, but of course I had to go and get the regular 16 mg Kindle HD when they were 20% off, so I’m happy with that but if I hadn’t this would have been very ideal, however it does say that you can’t use a debit card for your first payment and some of us use only debit cards, I’m guessing anyway.

  6. I’ve have / had both — the kindle is AWESOME if you are not used to apple products. However if you want to sync all of your apple products together and have friends that you chat/facetime with then the ipad would be a better choice. The kindle in my opinion has better graphics and sound. The ipad’s sound comes out of the bottom, which is not good if you are docking it or holding it upright – the kindle has speakers on both sides so it’s more like stereo. The only thing I really didn’t like about the kindle was that you couldn’t get apps from the google play site, just through amazon (not sure if that has changed now that it’s been around longer)
