3M Money-maker at CVS!

April 28, 2009 · 43 comments

I just KNEW there would be a way to capitalize on the 3M deal at CVS this week!

Here’s how to make this deal a $5 Money-maker with NO out of pocket cost:

Buy SIX 3M Command Metal Hooks – $2.50 each (total $15)
Use SIX $2.50/1 printable coupons (Yes, it’s a pdf, but it’s directly from 3M’s site and they put out pdf coupons often)
Pay $0 out of pocket
Get back $5 in ECBs!
$5 Money-maker after coupons and ECBs!

WOOHOO! If you have several CVSs close to you, you can buy a couple at each store if one of the stores doesn’t have all 6. The total will build with each purchase and then once you hit $15 your ECBs will print out.

This would be a great way to get started CVSing if you are new!

Great post! I used your last scenario for the ROC cleanser, worked like a charm. I really like these 3M hooks too! I’ve dipped my toes in Wags, but so much prefer CVS! So many uses for those hooks too..thanks so much for all your hard work.

I went and got my hooks just now! I also got a q for $2/2 bags of CVS nuts and $3.00 off Lumen Products from the machine AND I had a $2.00 off $10.00 CVS q from Sunday. I walked out with 6 hooks, 4 small bags of cashews and a package of Lumen face wipes and 2 bottles of dishwashing liquid and I paid NOTHING out of pocket!!! In fact the register said she owed me .24 cents but she adjusted one of the q’s! Oh and I also got my $5.00 ECB!!! What a fun shopping trip!!!! Thanks a million!!!

The ad says limit 1, but sometimes it can be more. Could someone who has done the 3M deal look at their receipt and let us know? Thanks!

Lisa,

Aren’t those the best trips!! I’m looking forward to heading to my “secret CVS” (where it seems there aren’t a lot of couponers) tonight! :)

Thanks for the post : ) Hubby & I each bought some today and the limit is one per card. I did the freebie set and he used the $1 off coupons to get some of the other styles he likes and often pays full price for so he was super happy. For ONCE I got him excited about couponing, lol.

Be sure to get a raincheck if they are out! That way you can get them when they restock.

My CVS does not have these metal hooks. They had the faux metal hooks (that look like metal) but many of the hooks were not included in the sale. The faux metal hooks were amazingly expensive, too. So, no deal, here, in Summerville, SC, on the hooks.

Heidi- You should price check the larger hooks that are originally $6.99 they are ringing up $2.50. I did the deal on my way home and ended up getting 6 large faux metal hooks for 2.50ea.

There is a way to print just the coupons, without all the extra stuff but you have to be somewhat computer savvy to do so.

If you are then read on…
Pull up the coupon page, when it is in view, hold down the ctrl key and the print screen key at the same time; release. Now that screen shot is on your clipboard. Pull up the paint program (installed on every windows computer) and hit ctrl and v at the same time; this will paste the screen shot onto your paint window. Then select the cut tool from the toolbar on the left. Click and drag around the area of the coupon you want to keep. Once a dotted box is around your coupon hold down ctrl and x at the same time. This will make the coupon disappear (it is called cutting). Open a new paint window (when it asks if you want to save previous paint screen hit no) and then once you have the new paint window open hit ctrl and v at the same time. This will paste the single coupon into a new window, allowing you to print the coupon without all the extra stuff. If this gives you grief I recommend asking someone you know for help who is good with computers.

FYI for all you Dallas-Ft Worth CVS-ers…a CVS employee told me yesterday (after I went to three stores) that they don’t carry the metal hooks, only the plastic ones. What a bummer!

I live in DFW and have 12 plastic hooks from the sale.

regarding printing out the coupons, I did the screen shot cut and paste into a word doc, without changing the sizing so as not to change the bar code, and they didn’t scan at CVS! However the lady still let me use them. I only bought two so far, and they were the plastic kind, but I will try to go back to the same store and get the rest of them . I saw the fake metal ones that said 6.99, these did not have the sale tag on the rack, but at my CVS they don’t always post all of the sale deals on the shelves.

I found the best and easy way to print without all the extra stuff is on the PDF file zoom in so only the coupon you want is showing and a little to the left of it. The go file print. Click on the print current view option. It will print the coupon and a little to the left. It prints normal size and not the whole page (check the preview to make sure). Should save alot of ink.

Thanks Dana I printed this way and the barcode looks good. I tried screen shot and the barcode printed thick. Hopefully this will work and they have them in stock. Going tomorrow!

Thanks! Love the site!

Another way: Print one at a time….yes a pain….and when you see THAT coupon done printing (it’s the top/first printed), hit “CANCEL” on your printer. Repeat five more times.

I went to CVS to get some of these. The cashier told me before I checked out that they were $6.99, not the 2 for 5, but I said I wanted them anyhow. Sure enough, they rang up for $2.50 each. They are so cute and I plan to use them as an “extra” gift on Mother’s Day. Thank you.

I got charged $1.05 for tax on my 6 hooks. It was such a great deal that I didn’t want to argue about it. Since I’m new to all this, not sure whether this was right or not. Does anyone know if I should have been charged tax on a $0.00 transaction??? I live in FL.

Hi, I am new to all this and am just learning to print coupons. With the Special K coupon, after I had printed 2 it had the message I had reached the limit. How did you print so many? I did print 2 more from my DH’s computer, but am still missing one more to make the 5 for the gift card and then someone this morning bought 3 sets of 5? WOW!

37 Rachel @ Surviving The Stores May 2, 2009 at 6:01 pm

To get the 3 sets of five, I used 6 $1/1 Kellogg’s coupons from the paper, and then I used 8 coupons that I printed (I have two computers that I print coupons from, so I can print 2 per computer – then there were two sites to print from, so I was able to print 8.) That made 14 coupons that I could use for the cereal.

Question,
How does the store know that the printed coupons for the 3M products are from the store website and acceptable? Do you take the full page after printing? I’m a newbie too. :)
Thanks,
Sheree

Hi Sheree!

I cut mine out and didn’t have a problem using them. The stores pretty much (with some exceptions) will accept any coupon that scans, so it’s up to us to make sure they are legitimate.

I just came back from my first try. I think I must have done something wrong. I had two $1 coupons for the Adidas deodorant, found it on clearance for $1.25 each, picked up two, but did not receive any ECB’s on my receipt. Not complaining as I still got a deal! Where do I find the ECB’s earned? The receipt says earn 2% back, is that what I am lookimng for? Also received a recept to fill out and return for a $4 coupon off $20 purchase. Did I pick up the wrong product? Also, when you scan the item for pricing, does it show how much ECB’s you are to earn? Sorry so many questions. :)
Thanks,
Sheree
